Instructions & Warnings –X100® X-Latch Kit for Crane Blocks
SAFETY INFORMATION
- Hook and latch should be inspected by a qualified person before each use.
- Do not use a latch that is distorted or bent.
- Be sure spring will secure the latch against the notched tip of the hook.
- Be sure hook supports the load. Latch must never support the load.
- When using two slings on one hook, ensure latch can operate freely and unencumbered.
- Latches are intended to retain loose sling or devices under slack conditions.
- A complete understanding of these instructions is required before using hooks and latches of this type.
- Always follow proper procedures and rigging practices. If proper procedures are not followed, loads may disengage from hook.
- Failure to follow these procedures may cause serious injury or death.
- Never stand under load. Falling loads may cause serious injury or death.
- See OSHA Rule 1926.550(g)(4)(iv)(B).
- Be sure hook supports the load. Latch must never support the load.
- Always inspect all rigging prior to each lift. Rigging equipment must be inspected prior to each lift by a qualified person.
Installation Instructions
- Remove old damaged latch kit and discard.
- Open the X100® X-Latch Kit bag and remove and count the contents on a flat and level surface.
- The following items are enclosed in X-Latch Kits of 5 & 7 Ton:
- (A) 1 Forged Heavy Duty Steel Latch
- (B) 2 Latch Springs (keep one for future use)
- (C) 1 Bolt
- (D) 2 Lock Nuts (keep one for future use)
- (E) 1 Rapid Release Pin
- The following items are enclosed in X-Latch Kits of 15 Ton or larger:
- (A) 1 Forged Heavy Duty Steel Latch
- (B) 2 Latch Springs (keep one for future use)
- (C) 1 Retaining Pin
- (D) 4 Retaining Rings (keep two for future use)
- (E) 1 Rapid Release Pin
- Place the Spring (B) around the cam of the hook.
- Place the front bottom end of the Latch (A) into the notched tip of the hook.
- Align the front top holes of the Latch (A) to the cam holes, tucking the Spring (B) into the underside of the Latch (A).
- Insert the Retaining Pin (C) or Bolt (C) through the top of the Latch (A), through the Spring (B) and cam holes.
- Snap the Retaining Rings (D) onto each side of the Retaining Pin (C) OR screw the Lock Nut (D) onto the Bolt (C) until hand tight. NOTE: Be sure the Lock Nut is fully engaged with the bolt but do not overtighten.
- Place the Rapid Release Pin (E) into the bottom of the Latch (A).
